Subbukutti Ayya was a veena exponent who was a member of Swathi’s Court.
He is the grandson of Pachimiriyam Adiyappayya, the celebrated author of the
famous ‘Viriboni’ varna in Bhairavi, and was originally attached
to the court of the Raja of Puddukkotta. From the record it is seen that Swathi
Thirunal carried on a long correspondence with the Raja through Subba Rao
for getting him in his court and finally succeeded in the attempt. Respecting
the Maharaja wish, Subbukuti chose to settle down in Trivandrum itself. A
handsome monthly allowance was sanctioned to him.
