He was a sage who lived in the Thanjavoor district of Tamil Nadu. He was
an expert in music and Bharatanatyam. He established a temple at Varahoor
and lived there.His Salagrama and other materials for the worship are still
kept there. He was a bhakta of Lord Krishna. His poem Krishnaleela Tharangini
is very popular. It is important as a musical piece as well as a piece of
literature. It is a combination of slokas or verses, keertanans, prose,
dramatic dialogues etc. 36 different ragas are used in this composition.
This book is considered as a classic for studying raga and rasa or mood.
He has many disciples and through them his songs got transmitted to all
parts of South India and his compositions are still very popular.
