Mrs Binni Krishnakumar (b 1974)

Mrs Binni Krishnakumar was Born on 10TH June, 1974 to late Sri.K.N.Ramachandran and Smt.Santha Ramachandran at Thodupuzha in Kerala. Binni began learning Carnatic Music (Vocal) at the age of seven under Vidwan Sri.Thiruvizha Surendran. She received the National Talent Scholarship and came under the tutelage of Sri.Thamarakkad Govindan Namboodiri.

During her graduation and post graduation in music, she learnt from Violin Vidwan Sri.B.Sasikumar and Prof.Neyyattinkara Mohanachandran at Trivandrum. A high first class in B.A (1994) and M.A (1996) in music from the University of Kerala, she secured First Rank with first class in M.Phil in Music from Sri.Sathguru Samajam of Kamarajar University, Madurai. Presently she is doing her doctoral research under the guidance of Dr.K.Omanakkutty, Department of Music, University of Kerala. The title “KALAATHILAKAM” conferred with a gold medal by the Kerala State Youth Festival Committee 1989, Govt of Kerala. She won First prize in Classical Music in the Kerala University Youth Festivals - 1992 & 94 and was awarded ‘The Junior Research Fellowship’ awarded by the Cultural Department, Government of India – 2000. Binni was awarded direct B-High grade by the All India Radio and sings regularly for the AIR, Doordarsan and other private television channels. She has been featured in the South Zone Hookup programmes of the AIR. Among her memorable concerts are the concert for the 40th Annual celebrations of the Kerala Legislative Assembly. For the Onam Festival 1997, for the first time in the History of Kerala, Binni performed a concert on a stage which was placed in the center of a huge water tank (Sreevaraham) while the audience listened to the concert sitting at the steps on the four shores. A popular musician of Kerala through the Asianet TV Channel, Binni Has successfully presented the Classical Music based weekly magazine – ‘NaadaMaadhuri’ along with the popular lyricist of the Malayalam cinema, Sri.Kaithapram Damodaran Namboodiri. Binni joins her husband, vocal musician, Sri.Trivandrum K. KRISHNAKUMAR to perform duo vocal concerts and theme oriented special concerts.
