Arunachalakavirayar (1711-1778)



He was born in Thillaigudi village in Thanjavoor district of Tamil Nadu. His father was Nalla Thampi Pillai. He had his education in Sanskrit, Tamil and Telugu. He studied the Ramayana, Thirukural and the Vedas and Shastras in-depth. He has written plays and keerthanans. His Ramanatakam is well known. It was written in simple language and became very popular with the masses. In 1771 it was staged at the Sriranga temple and it received much acclaim.
